Double chocolate fudge cake mix and white frosting is enough to send anyone into a sugar overload. So that’s what Patti and the girls made, but with a purpose of course. It wasn’t just for a yummy desert at the end of the day, but for someone in particular. A birthday boy. Well, not quite a boy, but he’s young at heart and I hope to keep growing up just like him. We didn’t have the right combination of number candles, but we did have some numbers. ”98″ is what was on top of the cake. It’s too bad we didn’t have “98 – 41″. That would have been classic!
Saturday January 23rd was my Dad’s birthday. The main person that I strive to be everyday inside and out. I know I can never BE him, but I sure try to ensure that when people meet me they can tell that I’m his son and something of him rubbed off on me. He taught me many things, but the most important was and still is that family is everything. He worked very hard for us when my sister and I were kids. A many tearful goodbyes were shed when he’d have to pack up from our home in Newfoundland and go outside of the province to find work. And now he has his own business, doing what he loves, and being his own boss. But he still answers to my Mom (the real boss).
Happy Birthday Dad! You’re looking good for 98, not a day over 57. We all love you.

Brent Pilgrim - A skill testing question needs to be answered if you want a piece of cake

:) The cake looks TASTY. And maybe we should always make people do math for birthday candles..
Cat - Great post, Brent! Your dad is the best – he makes me smile whenever he’s around
Patti - As I wipe the tears from my eyes… thanks a lot Brent!
You are most certainly like your dad: smart, kind, loving, talented and a bit goofy! I can not think of two better role models for our two little girls. I just hope they marry men with the same qualities both you and your dad have. Love you both!
